Work History

Terminal Operator

Channel Infrastructure NZ (formally Refining NZ)
Marsden Point , New Zealand
2022.07 - Current

I have been very fortunate to have been one of the 16 re-employed as a Terminal Operator when Refining NZ ceased operation and became Channel Infrastructure. I work various 12-hour shift patterns including days and nights.

I currently:

  • Monitor day-to-day operations of storage tanks and piping, alerting appropriate personnel to any performance variances.
  • Observe company and governmental standards in cleaning and organizing work area, actively preventing circumstances conducive to injury and occupational hazard.
  • Maintain high personal health and safety standard, reporting all near misses and where requiring investigating incidents or events.
  • Observe company and regulatory standards in Hazard Identification and Risk Mitigation actively preventing circumstances conductive to injury and occupational hazard.

Refinery Operator

Refining NZ
Marsden Point , New Zealand
2011.08 - 2022.07
  • I worked a pattern of 2 days/ 2 nights on a rotating 12 hour shift pattern operating our Process Plants. I have gained a huge amount of experience and knowledge in a complex, aging process plant. In addition, I worked within a highly skilled and multi-disciplined operations team with a high standard of operator craft. My mechanical trade has helped me to break down problems, evaluate solutions and make informed decisions, this has enabled me to carry out day to day duties accurately and efficiently. I always stick to strict Health and Safety protocols every time I am on site to protect myself and my fellow work colleagues, one example being that I noticed and changed a broken camlock fitting on a dye isotank, and in doing so prevented a potential incident from occurring in the future.

I have:

  • Observed production operations, identified safety hazards and addressed problems to maintain safety for all personnel.
  • Observed and tracked information from gauges, instruments and meters to proactively identify and address issues.
  • Checked pipelines, connections and valves, lubricating connections and replacing worn parts.
  • Performed daily evaluations of wells by measuring tank levels, checking flow lines and documenting pressures.
