I am a hardworking, dedicated and passionate qualified-provisionally teacher.
I arrive at work each day always putting my best foot forward and striving to make a difference, no matter how big or small.
Relationships are central to my teaching philosophy so ensuring that I create, develop and foster such relationships with my team, children and their whānau is imperative.
I strongly believe that children teach us just as much as we teach them and I therefore see that continual critical reflection on my practice is a fundamental aspect of being and becoming diverse and inclusive in my practice and pedagogy.
I hold a strong connection and passion for all things literacy and literacy learning and what this looks like in practice and most importantly, what this looks like for children. Being literate in today's diverse society can mean many things and has no single definition. Rather than, it is a unique and individualized journey in which each child and their whānau bring something new to the community of practice.
Te Reo me ngā Tikanga Māori is also something I am passionate about and I am continuously striving to learn more and do better in this area.
Upholding and implementing my commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is also paramount for me. Recognizing the importance of my role and treating this with the upmost care is crucial.
Creating an environment that is culturally diverse, inclusive, reciprocal and responsive is, and always will be, front line for me.
- I am responsible, equally and individually, for all day-to-day tasks such as care moments, greeting parents and settling children, taking mat times and ensuring the overall safety and quality learning environment for children attending.
- I have 6 profile children of whom I am responsible to observe, document and plan for via Educa.
- I contribute to centre planning and documentation as well as leading internal evaluations and also engage in regular professional development courses/opportunities.
- I liaise with parents daily about their child(ren) day, any learning and development related topics, and I am also confident having difficult discussions should they arise.
- In my role, I am constantly reflecting on my practice and looking for ways to improve to ensure I am giving the tamariki the quality education they deserve.
- As a teacher in training my role of responsibility here was limited. I assisted the kaiako with daily tasks and care moments, helped to maintain the environment and always ensured that I was providing tamariki with quality learning and development opportunities. The only thing I did not do was attend staff meetings and plan and document learnng for tamariki.
- As an on-call casual reliever my role of responsibility was limited. I was not involved in any care moments or planning and documentation of learning as I worked between the two Whanganui centres. My main responsibility was to engage with children and ensure that their safety and quality of learning was upheld at all times.
- After completing a placement here as part of my certificate requirements, I obtained a casual, on-call role. My duties were limited however I was responsible for ensuring the safety of children at all times and providing quality learning experiences for them. I did not plan and/or document learning or attend staff meetings however I did contribute to discussions and worked closely with kaiako to ensure ta quality environment.
- Finishing high school and having taken a "gateway" class in early childhood whilst there, I was put into Bee Kids for a placement, attending a few days a week. After this time, I was offered a casual, on-call position mainly to cover lunch breaks, non-contact times and to fill in if anyone was away. I assisted kaiako with daily tasks and housekeeping responsibilities while ensuring I marinated children's safety and implemented a quality environment that children could thrive in.
