I am Alexander (Alex) Alsabie, currently a Year 13 student at Rangitoto College. Throughout my high school years, I have dedicated myself to both community service and gaining valuable hands-on experience in healthcare. From 2017-2021, I volunteered at my local church, initially serving as an altar server and later transitioning to teaching children. This experience has allowed me to develop a positive attitude, strong teamwork and collaboration skills, and a sense of responsibility in serving my community.
Additionally, I have volunteered at my dad’s dental practice, where I played a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the clinic. My responsibilities included cleaning and sanitising dental tools and equipment, straightening treatment rooms, and restocking supplies to ensure a smooth workflow. I also performed general chair-side duties for general dentistry and prepared patient X-rays and images for review by the dentist. This role has bettered my attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
I am fluent in both Arabic and English, which has allowed me to communicate effectively in diverse settings and provided me with a unique perspective on problem-solving and community engagement.
I am planning to pursue a conjoint degree in Law and History at Auckland University, where I have been offered a fast track. My experiences have shaped my commitment to continuous learning and service, and I am eager to apply these skills in my future endeavours.
