Work History

Lead Deckhand

Australiana Charters
03.2022 - Current

I am the lead deckhand on a 7 day live-aboard fishing charter. This charter leaves from Yeppoon, and travels to the southern most end of the Great Barrier Reef. My position requires me to perform many duties & responsibilities which consist of but are not limited to: Performing navigational night watches onboard the vessel, engineering maintenance on main engines and auxiliaries, aiding in the galley with preparing meals for 12+ guests and coworkers, passenger briefings regarding maritime safety and code of conduct, maintaining the interior & exterior cleanliness of the vessel to the highest standard, filleting and packing the fish caught on-board to an A1 grade. I take major pride in my all things fishing and spearing. I believe a big part of my role as being a deckhand includes sharing my knowledge with passengers onboard, as it is a part of the service they pay for. I will happily show and teach my skills from knowledge on the the reef, catching and landing then filleting the fish, tying rigs and knots, information on fish and coral species. I share this information all on the basis of hoping they can retain this information, and take it on their next trips for years to come, therefore making a small impact on each customer and building relationships for trips to come.

This role has been very “all hands on all positions” since I started. The experience I have acquired throughout my years onboard the Australiana, combined with my passion for throwing myself in the deep end and giving every and all things a go, I believe has prepared me perfectly for what the maritime industry has in store for my future. As I know that the role of being a deckhand requires lots of skill in varying kinds of responsibilities.

Temporary Bosun

Lanakai - 40M Sports Fishing Yacht

Onboard Lanakai, a 40 metre sport fishing yacht with the home base of Orakei Marina, I had a temporary 3 week position as a Bosun. Throughout these 3 weeks I performed the following duties; maintain the cleanliness and eye appeal of the vessel to immaculate standards by polishing & waxing, in which I performed efficiently although sustaining an impeccable attention to detail, preparing fishing gear for the guests such as tying rigs and rods also with a high level of efficiency and quality, Aiding passengers when fish were caught, or answering any queries they had regarding fishing or any other matter. Using my skills acquired on the charter boat to fillet and package the fish caught onboard and also organising activities for the guests onboard.

Day Labor Worker

Hey Jude - Sydney 45M Super Yacht

Hey Jude - Sydney is a 45m Super Yacht from Sydney Australia. I had the pleasure of working on this yacht during a shipyard period. My duties throughout this time were to assist in various jobs including but not limited to; corrosion maintenance inside of both fuel and fresh water reservoirs, this maintenance included sanding, priming and paining the corroded areas. Cleaning, restoring, packing and organising parts off the vessel, assisting in dismantling other areas of the yacht which were in need of repairs. This experience gave me key knowledge in understanding the fundamentals of how a Super Yacht, more specifically vessels in general, is built and how it runs seeing as though all this maintenance was done out of water. I later used all this experience to put towards the papers of the MED2 ticket which I now hold.

Building Aprentice

Various Companys
02.2021 - 02.2023

From Feb 2021 - Feb 2023 I worked at three different building companies. These companies were:

-FV Design and Build,

-Harding and Son Construction,

-Bennet homes.

Over the course of this time period, before I endeavoured to pursue my dream career in the maritime industry, I carried out many different builds and projects from start to finish. I gained an astronomical amount of practical life skills, such as working hands on, and grew a knack to have an analytical and logical outlook on not just situations regarding work; but also life in general. I still implement these skills on a day to day basis, and have most definitely been a stepping stone to my ever-growing understanding in the maritime industry.
