Volunteer Experience

  • The Ark After School Care Programme, Volunteer. 04/01/22-present. I have helped to develop and run an after-school programme once a week in my community. We focus on bible stories and teaching our tamariki life skills. We take on board suggestions from them about what they wish to learn. This is a new programme that is showing to be successful and is still growing.
  • Heretaunga Christian Centre, Youth Group Leader. 06/01/21-present. I am part of a team that delivers a regular programme to a group of 40 year 5 to 8 students. I develop relationships with the tamariki and encourage them as they navigate the challenges of entering adolescence.
  • Tōtara Park School, Teacher Aide. 03/01/21-12/01/22. I volunteered with an ORS funded student every afternoon. I helped her with her communication by introducing Sign Language, which became a main goal in her IEP’s. I was involved in the planning of her weekly tasks and met regularly with her teacher and other support staff.
  • Victoria University of Wellington Autism Clinic, Playgroup Supervisor. 03/01/21-06/01/21, I was on a weekly roster to supervise a playgroup for children aged 2-5 with Autism. My role included setting up for the session, engaging with children and their parents and using techniques from the ESDM to guide my interactions with our children.
  • The Kings Arms Church, Creche Supervisor. 01/01/14-12/01/20. This role saw me running a creche programme every Sunday morning for 0-3 year-olds. I organised activities, interacted with children through games, music and toys and provided a safe, calm environment for the tamariki.
