Additional Information

I would like to use my love of languages and cultures in a setting broader than my own classroom, e.g., in a collaborative model where I could teach students from other classes some entry-level language, and other teachers teach my class in an area that they are passionate about and/or skilled in. I believe that children benefit when teachers share their expertise and experience with others instead of working in silo.

Interests

Spending time with family

Social motorcycle riding

Art, especially painting

DIY, building things from pallets

Composing and producing electronic music

Trying new things, like making an arcade machine

Church Involvement

I grew up in a Christian family and gave my life to the Lord at the age of 4. In my teen years I have been a youth group and Sunday School leader, I have attended Christian camps and Youth for Christ Rallies as a drama team member.

When I was 22 years old I went to Russia with OMS International to work as a missionary under the CoMission Project. I met my wife there (who is Russian and also a Christian). We have two sons and we returned to NZ permanently in 2008.

We have been attending the Hāwera Baptist Church since we moved to Hāwera over 10 years ago. In that time I have been involved in the worship team as a musician and organiser. I have experience on the Eldership team, and have regularly attended our weekly Sunday services. I instigated formation of a men's motorcycle group in order to see men connect more meaningfully outside of the Sunday services.

My current ministry focus is a social motorcycle club called "Fishermen Aotearoa" which has a Christian foundation, with the intent to reach non-Christian riders.
