Hawke's Bay DHB

  • Once it was decided that our local maternity unit would have funding for a Day Assessment Unit, I, as an LMC and a core midwife, was appointed to create the unit with its protocols and procedures in order to deliver this service.
  • Running the unit was an ongoing development project needing adjustments in order to run smoothly for everyone: patients, doctors, our midwifery colleagues at the hospital, and, more importantly, in the community.
  • Communication skills among all parties involved were key in this setup.
