Work History

Curriculum Leader Middle School Science

Kristin School
Auckland, New Zealand
01.2008 - Current
  • As a Curriculum Leader of Middle School Science, I have re-developed the Year 7 - 10 MYP science curriculum at Kristin School, Auckland to allow for greater engagement and excitement in science
  • I believe my experience in a variety of subjects allows me to see natural links between curriculum subjects and suggest possible IDU opportunities. I have developed inquisitive students, teaching varied processes and methods of discovery to inspire further scientific inquiry.
  • My skills and experience are strongly tied to the MYP Learner profile as evidenced below. These skills are transferrable to any curriculum.
  • Principled - I work diligently to provide comprehensive schemes of work on One Note and Canvas for teachers and students to access
  • Knowledgeable - I take advantage of professional development opportunities in MYP, Science, Phys Ed and other areas to remain current in my knowledge.
  • Communicator - I am a confident communicator in all situations. My past roles as Head of Faculty and Athletic Director have allowed me to become a confident public speaker. My current role as curriculum leader allows me to communicate clearly with my colleagues to encourage enthusiasm at the junior science levels
  • Open-Minded/Innovative - I have loved being part of the Middle School at Kristin where I have used my role as curriculum leader to create a relevant journey through the junior science years. I have created and implemented a new Middle School Science structure for Years 7 - 10. I have incorporated engaging and fun activities into lessons to reinforce hands-on learning and lively student participation. I have initiated the annual hosting of the Science Roadshow at Kristin for Year 7/8 students
  • Reflective - I engage in constant reflection of the units I plan and teach and tweak when necessary so students to do their best and succeed in science. I try to stay relevant to current issues when students are conducting research.eg, Year 7 - Mars Rover Lander for Physics, Year 8 - delving into the science of vaping and NRT to quit smoking, Year 9 an IDU with Humanities to study of the chemistry of water.
  • Balanced - I understand the need to develop the students' skills outside the classroom and have been a diligent participant in offering co-curricular activities such as: Co-ordination of the Muriwai Learn to Surf programme, participation in the Annual Kristin Camp programme at all year levels, coaching Aerobics to Junior school students, co-ordinating the successful Science Award Trust Badge programme to all Year 7 - 10 students and organizing a senior mentor team to check off progress, participation in the execution of the award willing productions that Kristin is known for.
