Master's project: Identifying the sources of organic matter in mangroves using stable isotopes in the Mahurangi estuary

Supervised by Luitgard Schwendenmann

The study investigated the vertical variations of δ13C, δ15N, carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratios, total carbon (TC), and total nitrogen (TN) within mangrove sediments Furthermore, it examined the relationship between total carbon and sediment parameters such as bulk density, pH, and electrical conductivity. 

Bachelor's Project: Studies on the potential of Moringa oleifera for nutraceutical product development as an antioxidant property enhancer.

Supervised by: Vijimol .T. Varghese.

  • Collected and prepared Moringa oleifera leaf samples through controlled drying and solvent-based extraction using ethanol and distilled water.
  • Performed centrifugation to separate and concentrate leaf extracts for further analysis.
  • Prepared aqueous solutions and alkaline DMSO reagents to support experimental assay conditions.
  • Measured optical density across multiple wavelengths using spectrophotometry to evaluate extract characteristics and antioxidant-related activity.

Field Experience

  • Terrestrial Ecology, Great Barrier Island, 04/16/23, 04/21/23, The analysis of the influences of Environment and disturbance on community composition and structure, Glenfern Sanctuary, Aotea. The data were collected from sites with rat traps and were collected using the PCQ (Point Centered Quarter) method, and data analysis was conducted using R and PaSt software
  • Freshwater ecology aims to address the overall stream health and the relationship between stream health and land use, involving the sample data and macroinvertebrate collection from streams in the Auckland region.
