My name is Ashlee Coldrick. I am 20 years old, and I am in my first year at the University of Auckland studying 1st Year Health Science with the hope of applying for the clinical programs such as, Medical School or completing a Bachelor of Optometry or Pharmacy. I attended AUT last year and commenced papers in Biomedicine. During the course of the year, I decided I wanted to give myself the opportunity to try for Medical School, hence the transfer to University of Auckland for 2025.
I am residing at Carlaw Park Student Village in Parnell. I am excited to apply for the Residence Adviser Position as someone who values community, connection and a supporting others. I see this role as a meaningful opportunity to help and create a welcoming and supportive home for students. Living in residence is often the first time many students live away from home and I know how important it is to feel part of a caring and supportive community. I have learned the importance of listening, being approachable and helping others feel comfortable and included. I want to bring those qualities into the RA role to ensure every student feels that they belong here. I enjoy bringing people together, whether that through planning small gatherings, encouraging conversations or just being someone residents can turn to. I believe in building strong, positive connections. I am also confident in my ability to handle challenges calmly and fairly, while always keeping the well-being of residents at the centre. Living in Carlaw this year I have come to love the community here, therefore in relating to preferences, Carlaw would be my first preferred position followed by Grafton flats.
In between studying I work casually as a Kitchen Hand/FOH part time on Sundays at HNT Kitchen in Commercial Bay. I am responsible for opening and closing duties, cooking, and preparing the cabinet meats and salads and keeping these stocked, serving customers/transaction handling, taking orders, end of day cleanup duties, and stocktake of supplies. I was born and bred in Te Awamutu and attended Te Awamutu College. Here I held various leadership positions. My leadership experience and part time work I have held to date have given me the skills and attitude to be able to interact and collaborate with people from another culture and diverse backgrounds in an inclusive, respectful, and productive way. It has involved me being more open-minded, empathetic, and willing to learn from others' perspectives and differences. In 2023 I was accepted to attend a Future Leaders Programme in Vanuatu where we embraced the Pacific culture and learnt more about the challenges the Pacific Region faces and how we can collaborate and help make a difference within these communities. I have developed excellent communication skills, am committed and dependable, honest, and always willing to listen, ask questions, learn, and make the most of any opportunity or experience given to me. I believe myself to be industrious, intuitive, and friendly, a team player who establishes good relationships, with a great sense of humour.
One of my goals for 2026 as I continue my tertiary journey is to have more community involvement and building connections and networking relationships within, whether it be through paid or voluntary work. I am available for an interview. If you require any further details, please don't hesitate to contact me. Kind regards,
Ashlee Coldrick
