Kiwi Can provides Year 1-8 students with the opportunity to build self-confidence and learn valuable life skills by participating in a unique developmental programme delivered by the Kiwi Can leaders. We empower young people to have a sense of Tūrangawaewae and help them to believe in themselves to achieve their goals.

• Facilitated the Youth Mentoring program with youth offenders in the Manawatu region. Participated in activities such as camping, sports and gym trainings, white water rafting, hiking, art programs, mountain biking, diving for kai moana and much more. The main goal for this program was to empower the rangatahi with life skills to help them become positive contributors to their iwi, whanau, and wider community.
• Facilitated the ‘Journey Book’ initiative where we documented the journey of the rangatahi within residence through photos and edited videos. The rangatahi were able to show their whānau and the Court of law their journey through this visual media. It broke down a lot of the stigma around youth residence and allowed a look into residential life.
• Ran and helped facilitate numerous programs with the rangatahi in residence including nutrition and healthy living on a budget, reconnecting with whakapapa, sports tournaments, boxing classes, gym workouts, language weeks etc.
