- My roles had been expanded whilst I was still a specialist plant operator I was promoted to section forman
- My duties are to manage a 6-8 man team installing steelwork cleats and cables within the confines of the tunnel
- It is also my duty to ensure all safety and quality checks are being carried out, documenting daily progress and ensuring the program is being achieved
- I also attend the weekly engineers meeting to feed back all the information collated within the week.
Cable installation Operative/HLSM Operator

- Woodhead Tunnel
- Installation of 2 x 5km 2500mm2 XLPE cable 2 circuits total cable length install 30 Km and all associated supports cleats & steel work
- Utilizing the Tescorp HLSM cable installation machine
- Member of the team that built and commissioned the HLSM machine on site after transportation from Australia
- Whilst assisting the jointing teams I gained additional knowledge relating to the 400kv jointing the period of time working with the jointing teams was over a 3 month period
- Although whilst assisting with the HV testing my role was more of a fetch me carry I found the experience was worthwhile once again I gain an insight into what is needed to test circuits prior to energisation
- Assisted in the full commissioning process along side TESCORP engineers
- Fully training on all three operating positions and received the relevant certification from Tescorp & BBUS
- Installed to date - one circuit (30 drums of 800m lengths) within the Woodhead tunnel
- Reconfigured the machine to install the 2nd circuit on the opposite tunnel wall
- Supported the Prysmian jointing teams throughout the jointing element of the project
- Working with the local SAP and the HV testing team on the final commissioning of the circuit.

- Installation of a 6km double circuit two per phase 72 kV rated circuits for a Network Rail connection across agricultural land within a ducted system
- Working on the excavation process and installation of the duct system

- Working with the final reinstatement team.
