Work History

Head Coach

Pakuranga Black Panthers
, Auckland
01.2023 - Current
  • Collaborating with the leadership team to create a team culture that is hungry for success, resulting in a second place finish in 2023 and an undefeated 2024 campaign, winning the ARU competition, and the National Cup.
  • Creating a periodised season plan, working on the fundamentals in preseason, and adding detail throughout the season to peak at the right time.
  • Overseeing the attack, defence, breakdown, and conditioning of the team, leading to the most points scored and least conceded, and three wins coming after the 80th minute.
  • Empowering my assistant coach, who took the backs, to design plays that fit the team's philosophy. Willing to ask for help from the premier coach to improve our scrum, as we didn't have a specialist forwards coach on our team.
  • Analysing our own game footage for areas to improve, as well as using opposition-streamed games to look for their strengths and areas to exploit.
  • Recruiting previously retired players and under 21 players who were considering giving away the game completely, with one of these players going on to make the New Zealand under 85 team in Ben Biggelaar.

Assistant Coach

Pakuranga Black Panthers
, Auckland
03.2021 - 08.2022
  • Worked with the head coach to develop a team strategy with the players we had, and worked on the appropriate hard skills to best use the strategy.
  • Listened to what the players thought would help the elevate the team, and passed it on to the head coach.
  • Helped turn a lower-middle-of-the-table team into a threat to make the semi-finals, going from a 40% win rate to 75%.
  • Coached the backs, designing moves and a defence that best suited our strengths.
  • Kept a keen eye on what the most successful teams were doing in their warm-up, on the field in games, and in the after-match activities that led to their success to implement into our team.
