I am 25 years old, and I come from the sunshine capital Whakatāne. I have a 6-year-old daughter and a partner who is a 2IC on a farm. Nursing has been one of my dream jobs since I was a young girl. My grandmother used to work in the Whakatāne hospital for many years. During those years I have always been around the hospital since I was young. My grandparents played a significant role in my younger days because my mother was a schoolteacher. I was motivated to become a nurse because of my whānau, and when I saw the health inequalities for our Māori people. I have strong Iwi affiliations to Ngāi Tūhoe, and Ngāti Awa as well as I descend from Ngāti Maniapoto. I want to promote better healthcare services to my whānau and extended rōhe . I wish to contribute to the implementation of equality in healthcare for all New Zealanders because I believe that quality healthcare practices and services should not be limited because of one’s ethnicity, race, gender, or religion.
