I’m currently a second-year medical student studying at the University of Auckland. I have a strong enthusiasm for clinical research, particularly in the area of genome biology and prenatal health. I’m willing to join the Liggins Institute to participate and learn the most cutting-edge knowledge in those areas. More importantly, being able to incorporate these new findings into present-day patient care. I have built a solid foundation in basic biomedical principles from my first year of biomedical science, combined with ongoing clinical education, which has equipped me with a decent ability for problem-solving, clinical reasoning, and approaching problems through an equity lens. I’m excited for this opportunity provided by the Liggins Institute and to see how other famous, most forefront field researchers approach the questions, solving them step by step logically, how they discovered new theories and incorporated them into the textbooks for students' learning, which, in fact, everything we learned in medical school is based on research, and I’m keen to be part of this and contribute with my own powI believe this experience will not just enrich my research skills, but also be useful for my future learning in medical school. It will train my mindset not just to passively learn the new concepts, like this is this, but actually to figure out the meaning behind it: why it works this way, and how we deduce this.s.s. I believe that working at the Liggin Institute will provide me with many opportunities to work on these kinds of questions, as we are expanding the field. Based on the work of our predecessors, we take this step further ahead. In addition, this is also a good chance to convert the knowledge I learned previously into practical use, rather than just being a person who studies only in textbooks. This will also enhance, or perhaps even refresh, my understanding of the concepts I learned before, with a deeper appreciation for them. Lastly, working at the Liggins Institute also built a solid foundation for my future career, allowing me to meet new people and expand my friends list. As I work toward becoming a clinician, I also aspire to develop as a clinician-scientist. The Liggins Institute offers a unique opportunity to combine clinical insight with impactful research, which is a path I hope to pursue alongside my medical career.
