Summary

I am a beginner teacher who is dedicated to helping develop students who are confident in themselves and take responsibility for their learning. I have an interest in using creative teaching methods and real world contexts that will benefit a diverse range of learning needs.

I appreciate curriculums that place importance on oral language learning as I believe it is beneficial to students’ comprehension skills in all subjects. To that end I have an interest and some valuable experience in DMIC and Structured Literacy. I have also taken night classes in New Zealand Sign Language with the aim to develop good communication with all of my students.

Curriculum Areas and Strengths

Structured Literacy
I have experience in teaching Structured Literacy curriculums such as 'The Code' by Liz Kane.
DMIC
I have placement experience in teaching with DMIC and would like to create a mathematics program that involves real world contexts and hands on math experiences.
Leadership skills
I developed this in my school leadership role as Prefect. This role also improved my ability to listen and connect with people because I was also a peer counsellor and dorm leader to the Year 8 girls at my boarding school.
Decorating
I have an eye for detail and love to decorate my house for any occasion. A classroom should be a warm environment and this is something I feel I already have a strength in.
Positive student engagement
I achieve this through including the natural interests of the students, including multiple ways to interact with the learning, and incorporating the wider community into the lessons.
Creative planning to meet diverse learners' needs
I have had the opportunity to create resources and work closely with students who have dyslexia and autism. This is a passion of mine because working with my sister who has dyslexia was what initially sparked my love of teaching.
