Caleb Jopson

(He/Him)

Summary

I am a 5th-year psychology student completing a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and am determined to secure a position in the clinical psychology training program. My six years of volunteer experience as a medical first responder have honed my skills in communication, emergency mental health care, and cultural competency. Additionally, my 11-year dedication to the St John Youth program, where I developed and delivered national curriculum modules, has given me a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga, and Maori health models. In 2023, I completed a global exchange at the University of Amsterdam, followed by three months of solo backpacking, which enhanced my cross-cultural communication skills.

My honours research focused on neural mechanisms of memory in a mouse model of frontotemporal dementia, enhancing my statistical knowledge and ability to research both independently and as part of a team. This work also improved my written and oral communication skills through dissertation writing and lab presentations.

My long-term goal is to become a licensed clinical psychologist, specializing in clinical neuropsychology or child and family mental health. I believe this training program will provide the essential skills and knowledge to achieve this.
