Catherine (Kate) Thomas

Year 4 - 5 class part time fixed term position.

• During my time with this class I developed strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues by maintaining open lines of communication and fostering a supportive learning environment. Using circle time and team activities to build a sense of community within the class.
• Enhanced classroom engagement through the use of interactive teaching methods, such as group projects and hands-on activities. During this term the class took part in Plays, School production Speeches Calendar Art and Winter Sport.
• Promoted a positive learning environment through the use of differentiated instruction and individualized support for diverse learners.
• Communicated with RTLB's and specified learning plans to support akonga with diverse learning needs.
• Worked with MOE and Teacher aid and to whanau to
• reintegrate akonga back in to school
• Implemented PB4L strategies for positive classroom management.

• This placement was my second of two seven week placements. I was in a year 0-1 class for this one.
• Worked with classroom teacher to learn about current standards and best practices.
• Cultivated positive relationships with administration, teaching staff and students.
• Developed lesson plans that incorporated mandated topics and included immersive activities for student engagement.
• Designed lessons on for students using various teaching methods and modern classroom technologies.
• Ran science, math units.
• Ran the school assembly with the NE class.
• Developed students understanding about the zones of regulation and worked on them with the students. With guidance from the RTLB and AT this helped support emotional regulation of ākonga.

"Kate, you have remained calm, positive and professional when dealing with some very challenging behaviours. You continually reflect on what went wrong for the child, and how a situation might be redirected or avoided in the future. Your kindness and empathy have also been noted by teaching colleagues, Teacher Aides and both the RTLBs who work with children within our class. "

This was my first teaching placement. I was in a year 4-5 class. Over this time I ran some mini units in, narrative writing, math - Mapping skills and taking a reading group. I ran lessons on sign language, orienteering, and Harakeke weaving.

During this time I followed 'Kevin Knight' and PB4L management models. I learnt a lot from this and it set me up well for my second placement.

I formed good relationships with students gaining their trust and respect.

"Kate has taught a number of mini units. She is now able to use a variety of lesson hooks, formative assessment, and summative approaches. Kate has worked hard to learn New Zealand Sign Language and uses this well during teaching. The lessons she has taught have been focused on the signs that the students will use rather than a lot of signs with no relevance to their day to day life. Kate values learning conversations as formative assessment and feed forward teaching. She understands that akonga will present learning in different ways and to value this."

• In this role I am the primary point of contact for all sales and coordinate the dispatch of all orders in North End
• Run Trade yard selling shingle and landscape supplies.

Drive Truck and trailer carting shingle to and from sites around Christchurch.

Worked in dispatch to cover staff away when needed.

• Delivery of concrete.
• Operated mixer truck in the loading and off-loading of the product
• Communication with site supervisors to provide a safe, quality concreting service
• Operation of a truck with road ranger gear box
• Thorough understanding of health and safety regulations with regards to concrete truck driving

Took groups of up to eight people Sea Kayaking in the Abel Tasman.

Trips would vary from Half day to three day tours.

Cared for safety and informed them on the local history and environment.

Trained new guides.

Gained NZOIA Sea Kayak Guide Qualification.

Worked in office selling tours and organising logistics
