- I coach young children from kindy ages up until the age group of 9+, as well as some of the more advanced/competitive levels in gymnastics (extension and squad program)
- My role as a coach is to help the gymnasts understand their body and strength in relation to the sport, to teach them new skills, help them understand how the sport works and to do it in a fun way so that they enjoy coming to training and doing the sport
- Although I may not have experience outside of coaching young children, I believe that my work experience as a gymnastics coach has set a good foundation for starting a job outside of the coaching field
- I have learnt many valuable skills which are compatible in both environments for example working in a fast paced environment, listening to my manager/supervisors as well as having good listening and communications skills with both parents coming in with various questions and the children I coach
- I am having to constantly learn and adapt to better ways based on various situations and outcomes that can occur, being punctual to show up to work on time and do what is needed from me
- I have learnt and adapted good communication skills with everyone I come across whether it is my managers, fellow employees or parents and children
- I have built up respect, trust and being reliable which has gained me more responsibility in my work environment such as having a key to be able to open and close when needed as well as having to be supervisor on some of the days when the manager is unable to come in
- In this work environment I had to ensure safety of all participants through strict adherence to gym rules, equipment maintenance, and proper spotting techniques.
- Developed lesson plans and routines for individual students to meet personal goals and abilities.
- Coordinated with other instructors and coaches to determine student advancement and progress.
- Boosted gymnasts confidence levels by offering constructive feedback and personalized support.
