Emergency Department Volunteer

  • Passionate in my once a week role providing comfort and support to often distressed patients and families in the emergency room; giving compassionate and empathetic care.
  • Supporting the patients with what ever they need and communicate with the doctors and nurses if required.
  • Supplying patients and their support networks with hot drinks, food for the patient - if they have been advised by the doctor that they are allowed to.
  • Replenishing low supplies to support the nurses and doctors to continue doing the great work they do.
  • Responsible for training new volunteers in ED supporting and encouraging them in an often intimidating environment for some.
  • This role has also given me the opportunity to be involved in various roles within the Wellington Hospital Foundation including collecting money for the Children's Hospital at the street appeal.
