Operational set up of a medium sized Harvesting Project in Ohiwa Forest, Whakatane which has a large stakeholder interest and environmental importance to the region.

Day to Day Management of all Project operations which involves oversight of a harvesting crew doing both clear fell and road line harvest.

This involves finacial monitoring of log sales and harvesting costs, Health and Safety compliance monitoring and onsite operational audits with a focus on high risk activities such as manual tree felling, steep slope machine operation and man and machine interaction.

Roading and Earthworks Management which involves, environmental compliance monitoring to ensure best practive and compliance with the NES-PF regulations, Financial monitoring of roading and earthworks costs in relation to the projects goals and budget, health and safety compliance and risk assessments.

This project also involves reporting to the Client, liaising with local Iwi on operational issues affecting Iwi Land and closely working with neighbouring properties to ensure sustainable access remains secured.

Management and Supervision of other projects - 725ha planting program involving project management of all operations and ensuring the operation runs efficiently and to budget.

Health and Safety Auditing and Mentoring for Fulton Hogan's operations which covered general road maintenance projects to special projects such as, Mohaka slow vehicle bay construction, Te Aroha sea wall replacement and significant road drop out rebuilds in Mahia Beach Road, Waimata Valley and Whatatutu Road.

This project involved conflict resolution and culture building strategies to enhance worker engagement and buy in to safety auditing and mentoring.

Various other general Management and Forest Operational tasks across various local Forests and a range of clients.

• Development and implementation of health and safety systems for 3 logging crew, Log Transport Company and busy Heavy Diesel workshop, incident investigation, auditing site inspections and management of staff training.
• Monitoring of manual felling operations and fortnightly manual felling audits to ensure compliance as well as any training or mentoring requirements.
• Engaging with Principal Forest Company on pre harvest meetings, risk assessment's and operational compliance matters.
• Environmental monitoring of operations to ensure compliance with best practice and Principles contract.
• General HR matters including staff inductions and recruitment.

• My own company providing professional felling services to commercial forestry harvesting contractors, Tree removal and maintenance to residential customers and professional felling for large dangerous trees to numerous Arborist companies throughout the Gisborne/ Hawkes Bay regions
• Implementing my own health and safety systems and policies in relation to the ACOP and best practice guidelines for forestry operations as well as compliance with numerous forestry principles including, Aratu Forests, Earnslaw One Ltd, alignment with ISO 45001 to ensure my system complied with the health and safety at work act 2015.
• I also provided auditing and training services to Forestry Contractorsto ensure their tree fallers were working safely and compliant to industry best practice.
• I was involved in various large tree removal projects such as 30 large gums removed in Napier to make room for the cycle way to be extended through Taradale. This involved protection of a significant native reserve, waterway and neighbouring properties.

• Completed my recruit training in Rotorua at the National Training Center then took up my role on blue watch in Tairawhiti at Gisborne fire station
• Gained leadership training as I progressed through to Senior fire fighter with training and exams
• Participated in managing the fire wise program through liaising with school principals throughout Tairawhiti.
• Deploying to the large Forest fire in Nelson in Pigeon valley I undertook dangerous tree assessments and removals to make the area safe for firefighting operations as well as around roadways and residential properties, this involved 8 weeks of an operational deployment and supervision of a rural fire crew.
• Throughout my career I assisted at numerous tree related emergencies and clearances of dangerous trees in storm related emergency calls, with a huge understanding of managing and controlling risks in complex dynamic situations
• Worked on my days rostered off felling trees for forestry contractors in the Tairawhiti region due to a high demand for professional tree fallers, this is where I started my own company Evans Professional Tree Services Ltd.
• I was involved in training programs for local volunteer units, a youth program Atawhai for troubled youths, as well as been my watch health and safety representative.

• Full time contract tree felling providing clear fell to a number of forestry crews in the Gisborne/Tairawhiti region, gaining experience in planning of felling operations to optimize timber recovery as well as management of high-risk areas and hazards
• Gained considerable experience in windthrow management and salvage as well as working around powerlines with machines to assist felling
• Leaving this position due to company closing and gaining entry as a career firefighter with Fire And Emergency New Zealand.

• Started my Career in Forestry, Planting and thinning. Then moved into a QC role which included Forestry inventory data collection and general forest maintenance tasks. Rural Fire training and a significant amount of time working with and around helicopters.
• Became qualified as a level 4 tree faller which began my professional career as a commercial faller.
• I also completed the first year of the Diploma in Forestry Management learning about Environmental standards in forest operations, health and safety and forestry establishment.
