Teaching Philosophy

I believe that being a teacher is all about nurturing and guiding our learners to grow into educated and functioning members of society. Our role in children’s lives is very important as we are directly contributing to how they will be when they grow into adults, and how their character and identity will be. They will also be making up our next generation, which is a heavy responsibility that must not be taken lightly as we contribute to shaping who they become. Teaching is all about helping your learners achieve and learn important knowledge and skills that they can use in their daily lives. My personal teaching philosophy is not necessarily about having the highest achieving learners, although that is an important aspect of the job. It is more about the relationships I build with learners and about the impact that I leave behind on them. I have always believed that teachers should be non-judgemental and kind figures in a learner’s life. “Safe zones” are also another part of my teaching philosophy that I had seen being implemented by a previous high school teacher of mine, who would make sure their classroom was a safe zone that allowed learners to share their ideas without fear of judgement – because of my experience with this concept, I have decided that it is important for me to also have my classroom be a safe zone. Therefore, my job as a teacher would be to give my learners the guidance they need to turn into the best possible version of themselves.
