David Morgan

Growing Spectrum is a wholesale plant nursery located in Kihikihi, Waikato. I started my career with the company in March 2022 as a Production Team Member.

Having no experience in horticulture, but very determined. I quickly learned various plant processes. These included:

• Weeding the plants thoroughly, ensuring no weed seeds were left behind or spread.
• Trimming plants correctly to sprout new growth, to meet contract deadlines.
• Feeding plants sufficiently to enhance growth.
• Working in a team to pot thousands of plants daily.
• Learning and retaining numerous plant family names and varieties.
• Demonstrating physical fitness. Lining out thousands of plants daily in a fast and orderly manner. Being able to lift multiple 4.5L - 8L pots in one hand, and being able to safely handle 10kg+ trees repeatedly.
• Learning how to bag and tie trees for sale.

Because of my work ethic and can-do attitude, when the previous 2IC departed, I was recognized and selected to be the current 2IC for the Production team in August 2022. Under the mentorship and guidance of my team leader, I helped push the team forward to complete jobs and meet potting deadlines.

In my role as the second-in-command:

• I managed and delegated work to staff, setting priorities and goals within the department according to deadlines.
• I supported my team leader in organizing and planning tasks.
• I motivated team members to enhance productivity and meet deadlines.
• I provided leadership, insight, and mentoring to new employees to supply knowledge of various horticulture techniques
• I motivated and embraced team engagement to enhance morale.
• I Coordinated with other departments to ensure smooth workflow.
• I Worked effectively in team environments to make the workplace more productive.
• I Operated equipment and machinery according to safety guidelines.

Alongside my duties as Production 2IC, I also had other responsibilities.

These include:

• Being a part of a pest and disease prevention spray roster. I obtained my Growsafe Basic certificate to sign up for this.
• Conducted monthly stock takes for pots, and accurately ordered stock to meet budget and minimize dead stock.
