I Started of in the construction industry when I was 15 years old, I was very money driven, and always had a fasciation with buildings, I actually wanted to become an architect, but being so money driven I opted for the more hands on approach as I felt more comfortable learning this way at the time.
I moved swiftly though a few trades- Bricklaying-metal sheet roofing-an electrical apprentice for 2 years and which I attended night school twice a week- not finding the right fit or the right role model to learn from, I was offered the position of an apprentice dryliner/ceiling fixer, I then spent the next 5 years learning and perfecting my skills.
I then spent my late twenties adjusting my skill set and focused on forming and running my own company, where I would have sub-contractors work for me, I did this up to the year 2009.
I then choose to apply for a role overseas (New Zealand) as I now had 3 young children and a partner.
We had family in both Australia and New Zealand and fancied a change and a different lifestyle for my family.
In 2008 I was offered a position at Alpha interiors (Auckland Based).
In 2009 while working as a ceiling fixer/ Dryliner for Alpha and only been at the company for 6 months in my appointed role, I was offered a position of senior site manger.
From here I went on to learn more and adapted my skill set as a site manger.
Around 2016, I started to carry out some small private jobs, this very quickly escalated, and I was faced with the opportunity of going out on my own and setting up a new company.
In 2017 S6 Ceilings & Partitions Ltd was established and we have taken this company from zero to a multi million turn over business, I am now looking for a new challenge but one without all the responsibility of being a company owner.
I see myself as an open book, what you see is what you get.
From 1993 to 2009 I used my time to learn the following trades.
suspended ceilings, both two-way and srcew-fix(NZ terminology)MF ceilings(UK terminology)
I learnt from the age of 19 how to supervise small crews of sub-contractors eventual moving into overseeing larger crews.
Around the age of 25 I had my own crew of around 25 sub-contractors, and would travel all over the UK for work.
In 2009 we moved as a family to NZ
I have played golf from a young age and enjoy the social side of the game as much as playing the game, this is a great way to network and meet other people.
Since being in New Zealand I have owned boats and jet-skies a love fishing of them, being on the water gives me a sense of freedom and escapism and provides a work home life balance.
Love my Cars and my bikes.
