I currently work as a Counsellor, with specialist training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. I have also worked as a Registered Social Worker in the mental health setting; and a Lecturer and researcher (social sciences, psychology, and education) in the University environment in New Zealand.
I am currently working part-time with an NGO agency and part-time as a private practitioner providing treatment for survivors of sexual abuse through an ACC sensitive claims contract. I have extensive experience working with trauma- and stressor related disorders; dissociative disorders; depressive disorders; anxiety disorders; and suicidal behaviour and non-suicidal self injury. I provide services across the age range, from preverbal children, through to young people and adults. I am primarily working with individuals and families; I have previously co-facilitated therapy groups for children (aged 5 - 11 years) and adults (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy).
My current professional development goal is to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology so that I can access a post-graduate applied psychology programme. The purpose of this direction is so that I can formally provide diagnostic assessments for treatment planning and intervention of children, young people, and adults.
Although I already have a Master of Arts (Social Science) in Psychology (with endorsement in occupational psychology), this was completed in 1991. The assessment and intervention qualifications under this degree are now outdated. Therefore I require updated psychology qualifications to be eligible to formally undertake psychological diagnostic assessments in New Zealand.
