As an RMA Accredited Commissioner, I am responsible for presiding apart of panels in hearings and making decisions on resource consent applications designated by local councils, plan changes, and other matters under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). My role requires a thorough understanding of environmental law, statutory frameworks, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, ensuring that decisions are legally sound, fair, and culturally responsive.
My law degree provides a strong foundation in statutory interpretation, administrative law, and procedural fairness, which are critical in evaluating evidence, applying legal principles, and drafting well-reasoned decisions. My role in hearings alongside others in the panel is to assess submissions from applicants, councils, iwi, and affected parties, ensuring that all perspectives—particularly those of mana whenua—are meaningfully considered. I also scrutinise technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and legal arguments to ensure that decisions are robust and compliant with legal and policy frameworks.
With my background in both law and environmental planning, I bring a unique perspective that balances regulatory requirements with the principles of kaitiakitanga and sustainable resource management. I am committed to upholding procedural fairness, delivering clear and well-reasoned determinations, and ensuring that hearings are conducted with transparency and integrity. As an RMA Accredited Commissioner, I am responsible for presiding apart of panels in hearings and making decisions on resource consent applications designated by local councils, plan changes, and other matters under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).
