  • A competent, professional, and collaborative horticulturist with a broad range of skills who maintains their portfolio of gardens to high standards of display and presentation in one of Auckland’s leading visitor destinations
  • Assists with the development of a pool of skilled horticulturists through training and mentoring emerging staff, particularly those participating in horticultural apprenticeship programmes
  • Key responsibilities
  • Maintenance of amenity gardens to required standards; where required, collaborates with other gardening staff in maintaining their areas as well
  • Researches and ensures appropriate plant introductions are made and all plants (where required) are labelled, and accession tags attached
  • Maintain records of all data relevant to the portfolio of gardens and ensure these are provided to the botanical records office accurately and in a timely manner
  • Supports delivery of high-quality community events, education & and engagement programmes
  • Conserve plants relevant to the portfolio in collaboration with the Botanical
  • Records & Conservation Specialist
  • Maintain turf (including mowing) and assist as required with maintenance of structures & hard landscaped areas
  • Contributes to the development of a pool of skilled horticulturalists including supporting the apprenticeship programme
  • Supervise and train (when required) other staff, temporary workers, and volunteers
  • Ensure that the Council's values and health and safety policies are adhered to in order to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors
  • Support compliance with bylaws and legislative obligations including patrolling, incident recording and interaction with visitors
