I have grown up in the hairdressing industry and developed a keen interest in men’s barbering which I started to learn at age 14. Last year I moved to Auckland to do formal training and start my journey to qualification.
After the course I moved back home to work in the salon however it is 97% female based hairdressing and while I built up a solid clientele of men and boys I feel like I need to be immersed in a barbershop of like minded stylists where I can continue to learn from others and gain a whole lot more experience.
I have applied at Maloneys barbershop because of its solid reputation in investing in young barbers and its ties to hair and barber nz. I was recommended by Pip Grundy at a course I attended and your barbershop looks like the perfect vibe for me.
You can look at some of my work on my IG @dylan_stilomen. A lot was from before my training at mr barber but I am building up my portfolio and would be keen to learn more about marketing my skills
After completing the barbering course at Mr.Barber in Auckland I move back home to Whitianga to complete my hours and portfolio working as a barber in a salon
Over this time I have been able to build a strong and consistent clientele
I also assisted other stylists with greeting and seating clients, shampooing and removing colour, and other tasks required to keep the salon running smoothly
For the past two christmases I have held a nightfill contract with The warehouse which for 2024 became a permanent position 2 nights a week. The only reason I finished this position is because I moved to Auckland to study at Mr Barber
I enjoyed working as part of a team dedicated to restocking their products and helping customers find their purchases
