Summary

Kia ora,

I am a young professional with hopes of entering the geospatial field. I studied Geology and Geography in university with the latter being focused on geospatial science and remote sensing; I have obtained work experience in these areas through research scholarships with QuakeCoRE and teaching assistant opportunities with the University of Canterbury. I am experienced with GIS software such as ARCGIS and coding languages including python, R, and VBA. I also have experience with data collection and creating visualisations.

For the past few years as I was completing my degree I have been employed as a civil engineering laboratory technician with Downer/Road Science and Fulton Hogan. While I enjoy this field, I truly had a passion for geospatial work that I would love the opportunity to follow.

Downer / Road Science
04.2023 - 04.2025
  • Completing field and laboratory testing in compliance with IANZ accreditation for various civil construction materials.
  • In charge of and managed equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Assisted with mobile data collection team with Hawkeye and road profile testing.
  • Highway inspections/audits.
  • Health and safety representative and hazardous substances PIC.
  • Updating laboratory processes to be purely digital (involved using VBA in Excel, python etc).
  • Various other laboratory functions.

Teaching Assistant for Remote Sensing/GIS Courses

University of Canterbury
06.2022 - 11.2022
  • Was a teaching assistant for a geospatial and remote sensing course.
  • Helped course coordinator and lecturer organise lessons and laboratory sessions.
  • Ran laboratory sessions for a couple dozen students, guiding them through coursework and answering any questions or solving problems with software.
  • Marking coursework.

Student Researcher

QuakeCoRE
10.2021 - 02.2022

Was involved in a summer programme where students are provided support to do a research project related to earthquake resilience. I was involved in three projects:

  • Using ARCGIS and python I created a risk map for landslide blockages along State Highway 6 during an Alpine Fault Magnitude 8 rupture event, correlating variables such as earthquake magnitude, slope angle, distance from road etc.
  • Created a map of essential locations for AF8 geospatial database.
  • Assisted in a project to simulate the impact sedimentary basins will have on seismic waves by creating 3D models of multiple around the country based on geological maps and raster DEM data.
