I have been employed at Tahunanui Medical Centre as a Practice nurse for the last 12 and a half years for which the last 2 years I have worked as the Practice Nurse Leader.


My role is to:

  • Communicate effectively to connect with patients, their whānau and members of the healthcare team to form therapeutic relationships leading to informed decision making.
  • To role model and work in partnership with patients, their whānau, and the multidisciplinary team to provide the best care possible to care for the patients and their needs and advocate for them.
  • To provide leadership to nursing and health care assistant colleagues in working within their scope of practice.
  • Act as a resource and leads opportunities in ensuring all nurses are working towards maintaining or improvement of core areas of their practice.
  • Provide performance reviews for 5 nurses and 1 HCA where I encourage self- assessment/reflection.
  • Encourage champion roles within nursing team ie cold chain, diabetes, respiratory, recalls.
  • Provide accurate rostering and templates for nursing team.
  • Provide orientation programme and support for new members of the nursing team.
  • Co-ordinate and run monthly GP/Nurse meetings and Nurse meetings.
  • Attend Bi-monthly nurse team leader meetings and share learnings with team.
  • Review of GPDoc’s policies monthly and standing orders yearly. Checking they are in line with Health Pathways. Involving and sharing changes with team.
  • Review and share of information via email from NBPHO and PHO Clinical governance group.
  • Lead for Cornerstone assessments – Foundation, CQI and Equity programmes.
  • Member of the clinical governance team for TMC.
  • Co-ordinate Flu and Covid vaccine clinics.
  • Recalls – ensure nursing team have adequate time to complete recalls with focus on reaching our priority population.
