- ROLE SUMMARY:
- This position operates the Christchurch Air Post Office (APO) in accordance with all applicable United States Air Force regulations. This position assists in the movement, sorting, and distribution of over 100,000kg of mail at the Christchurch APO annually. This position performs a variety of detailed registry duties in accordance with standard procedures.
- KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- · Provide the Registry/Financial Postal Clerk service for the NSF Contract
- · Contribution for the maintenance of effective Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance systems.
- · Development of Registry/Financial Postal Clerk programs and co-ordinate all work to ensure completion of work to time and quality standards.
- · Ensure after hours on call and emergency service are available in accordance with contract responsibilities.
- · Maintains and operates the APLS database, for directory service.
- · Coordinates with New Zealand Customs for inspection and clearance of incoming mail.
- · Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the Unit Mail Clerk (UMC) Program for the U.S. Military.
- · Postmark and cancel outgoing mail. Separates/sorts mail into proper classes and destinations for off –load points. Prepares slide labels, ties out pouches, and tags outside pieces and pouches with proper routing labels/tags. Prepares Military Mail AV-7 Delivery List (AV-7), through the Automated Military Postal System (AMPS) and Air New Zealand Cargo Weigh Bills for the transportation of mail on commercial carriers. Coordinates with local airline staff ensuring mail is dispatched on time.
- · Operate and maintain the IONSCAN 400B (Bomb detection equipment)
- · Access and uses AMPS for completing AV-7S and accessing Military Post Office (MPO) information.
- · Perform the pickup and delivery of mail at the Air New Zealand Cargo Area and USAP Cargo yard as dictated by aircraft schedules.
- · Consolidates Postal clerks 1412 finance transactions on a daily basis and transmits via AMPS to USPS.
- · Maintain, account, and control USPS and Air Force-owned accountable and non-accountable equipment.
- · Perform sorting, receipt, and distribution of mail at Christchurch, New Zealand, to include insured, certified, registered, and returns receipt for merchandise mail.
- · Responsible for issuing of DD Form 285 and keeping records for U.S. Military personnel.
- At present in the absence of the Postmaster i have assumed the duties of Custodian of Postal Effects which means the sole responsibility of the APO (AIR POST OFFICE) and direct liaison with Sydney and Pacific Air Command.
