Summary

I have recently completed my Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences, specializing in both Ecology and Environmental fields through the University of Auckland. I was born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, a small market town in the East Midlands of England, but have been raised in New Zealand, progressing through my education in both Whangārei and Auckland, which has given me a good understanding of the kiwi culture and way of life. Over the years I have also gained valuable insight and skills within multiple different working sectors on top of my studies, from physical labor within avocado orchards, hospitality work as a kitchen hand as well as office work as a payroll officer for the Whangārei Hospital. My main goal now that I have completed a Bachelors degree and am about to attend my graduation ceremony is to further develop my skills gained from prior work and tertiary education and to challenge myself as well as my abilities in the field that I am passionate about. These goals are set to fulfill my dream of being a successful biology specialist and consultant within my area of expertise.

  • Since graduating I have held this position at a family owned orchard, using my previous experience working as a fruit picker as well as further developing these skills in a more advanced role
  • While still being involved in the picking and packing of fruit, I am also more involved in the distribution to customers and other businesses locally, who intend to use our produce for consumption as well as artisan products such as oils and cosmetics
  • Due to the lack of external assistance from packhouses because of the businesses size, I have taken up significantly more responsibility which has improved my skills when working under pressure.

Holiday Act Payroll Officer

  • This was a big step up in my working career, as it involved learning brand new programs and systems within an office setting as well as improving my experience with excel to ensure medical staff across the northland region had been and were still being correctly paid
  • Along with this it was important when working for a large scale government owned industry to adhere to their policies and processes to ensure consistency
  • This position required a high attention to detail and concentration as any small mistake could cause over or underpayment of staff, it also involved collaboration within my team as well as leadership qualities to teach what I had learnt to new staff members.

Fruit Picker

  • This job required constant physical labor, early starts, and long hours during the peak of summer weather
  • Because of this I learnt alot about dedication and consistency, while also working on my overall strength and fitness
  • The field was very new to me, requiring me to carry large weights and learning how to use orchard equipment such as cherry pickers and ATV’s all while maintaining a great quality of produce to be sent to the packhouse.

Kitchen Hand and Waiter

  • This position was my first job that I undertook while attending highschool which taught me alot about working as a team and staying composed in stressful conditions especially during busy services with limited staff
  • The position involved washing dishes, preparing food, facility maintenance as well as serving and communicating to customers.
