Maritime Officer

  • To support the Harbourmaster, Deputy Harbourmaster, Marine Pollution Response Coordinator and other Maritime Officers in the day-to-day management of Auckland's maritime areas.
  • I help coordinate Council's maritime navigational and safety activities, including mooring management, delivery of components of marine oil spill and emergency management response activities and implementation of water safety educational and promotional programmes.
  • I have a good understanding and implementation of current Health and Safety legislation and willing to learn more.
  • I understand relevant legislation and Maritime Rules and help the general public understood these rules and are complied with.
  • My role is also responsible for delivering components of the Council's Resource Management Act responsibilities related to the coastal marine environment and other strategic outcomes related to the maritime areas of the Auckland region.
  • Developing, maintaining and enhancing relationships with other agencies involved in the management of Auckland's maritime areas.
  • Implementation of the Council's maritime navigational safety activities through the promotion, monitoring and enforcement of Council's bylaws, coordinating and management of on-water activities, responding to various incidents and the processing of notifications.
  • Management of all Council administered moorings.
  • Safe operation of Harbourmaster patrol vessels and ensuring the safety of all crew and other harbour users. Must be a role model to other harbour users.
