  • Work individually with our ORs students, both in classroom and non-classroom environments.
  • Run twice yearly IEP meetings for the individual students, with parents, teachers, teacher aides, and other specialists involved with that child.
  • Create a programme based on goals set in the IEP to ensure the child makes progress based on his/her needs.
  • Work with our Teacher Aides to support them in working with our children, as well as help provide them with professional development as necessary
  • Work with parents, including sometimes daily communication to ensure we are providing the best programme for our children's needs.
  • Communicate with, learn from and develop programmes with specialists and outside organisations, and the Ministry of Education specialists, such as Speech, Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist, BLENZZ, Oranga Tamariki, and other agencies.
  • Support the SENCO in creating and adjusting timetables for up to 10 ORs students and 14 Teacher Aides, to ensure full coverage daily, as well as covering other children with Learning Needs and ESOL.
  • Keep other staff, including the teacher, and the School Leadership Team informed about our children, as necessary.

I worked with the classroom teacher, both following my own and following the classroom teacher's programmes.

I developed good classroom management and loved being able to develop relationships both with staff and, more importantly students.

I used resources provided, as well as finding resources myself, based on the areas of the curriculum the student was focusing on. This included Year 8 - 10 Maths and literacy.

From 2003 - 2007 I worked as a Scale Teacher, at both Netherby School and Allenton School Ashburton. These were positions where I worked with Year 4 - 6 students.

I took up responsibilities within the school, took part in appropriate Professional Development and worked with a team of teachers within our syndicate.

I developed strong relationships with students and had good classroom management techniques.

In this job I worked with unemployed Youth, providing them with a mixed programme of physical activities (mountain biking, hikes, white water rafting), NZQA unit standards and community work.
