• Stevenson's Mining have the strictest H&S protocols I have ever encountered even though the current project is earthmoving, land development. The protocols are enforced rigidly, to a level I have not seen in the earthmoving / civil arena previously.

During this time I held a number of Fixed Term and Temporary Contracts working on civil construction sites including a subdivisions in Greenhithe, Paerata, Silverdale plus developing a major retail site on the north shore. Additionally I wa on the Puhoi to Warkworth Motorway, cut short by Covid-19.

• Working for New Zealand's largest construction company, being able to observe their Health & Safety approach compared with privately owned companies was fascinating.

• On my return to New Zealand I considered my work options deciding to follow a boyhood dream of driving big machinery. That desire led me into Civil Construction and Earthmoving. Then at first hand, not from the managers chair, health & safety became part of daily life. There is wide disparity between what managers believe are imbedded in workplace culture and reality. Health & Safety plus Wellbeing are going to be very important components of any thriving business and the time to highlight them is now.

The outcome of this work saw our ACC levies reduced significantly due to the confidence ACC had after audits showed a huge improvement in safety for our team, customers and their employees.
