Work History

Junior Structural Engineer

Newland Consultants Ltd
01.2024 - Current
  • Analyse structural systems for both static and dynamic loads designing structures and perform comprehensive structural analysis (foundation, retaining walls, footings, SED beams/lintels and connections, bracings, portal frames, etc.) using software tools such as AutoCAD and Vectorworks, ensuring the integrity and stability of a wide range of residential dwellings.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to assess load-bearing capacities and predict the behavior of various materials and components.
  • Evaluate and interpret analysis results to make structural decisions (i.e. decide the materials of the structural components, decide wind zone, calculate loads and stresses on structural foundations, beams and walls).
  • Work closely with other engineering teams (such as geotechnical engineers, architecture, and builders) to make detailed and efficient structural decisions (i.e. decide connection details of beams/posts/lintels/walls, provide detailed drawings, decide the depth of piles, decide the size of structural pads) for diverse projects.
  • Provide design calculations, drawings, and specifications, ensuring alignment with project requirements and industry standards (NZBC, NZS 3604, NZS 3603, AS 2870, NZS 3404, NZS 1170, etc.).
  • Utilize state-of-the-art CAD software to meticulously model complex structures and create detailed engineering drawings.
  • Generate accurate and comprehensive technical documentation, including report (PS1, B2, COW, PS4, workover report, etc.).
  • Regularly attend engineering online seminars from Engineering NZ.
  • Foster effective collaboration by maintaining open communication channels with site project managers, architects, contractors, and others. (Arrange site inspections, communicate with architecture, quote to customers, etc.)
