Summary

I am currently looking to broaden my skills within the communications sector.

Being the executive producer of a live radio show means I have the ability to be flexible in changing situations, think on a whim, maintain good relationships with people and deliver engaging content to a professional standard.

I would love the opportunity to work for your company, to share my skills and expand my knowledge even further.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Hannah.

Work History

Newstalk ZB Early Edition Executive Producer

NZME
05.2023 - Current
  • I am currently in charge of the setup and technical production of live radio show Early Edition on Newstalk ZB.

It has taught me how to handle all different types of stories, people, politics and has meant I have to engage a target audience who'd be just getting up to start their day.

  • Learned how to deal with fast-faced environments while maintaining balance and enthusiasm
  • I have had to lead my small team, meaning I am able to take responsibility for myself and in a team setting

Reporter

Today FM Radio Mediaworks
05.2022 - 04.2023
  • Radio was a huge change from working in TV, and with hourly news it meant enhanced coverage, teaching me extreme time management skills.
  • It taught me to lean on and work with team members in a usually stressful, high energy environment. There would usually be lots of talking and news in the background, so my ability to focus in distracting settings has developed greatly.

Journalist

Re News
12.2021 - 05.2022
  • Learned how to angle news at a younger target audience, developing awareness about what teens and early twenties want to learn and read about
  • I was in charge of updating the Covid statistics at a critical point of the pandemic
  • Developed new relationships both in and out of office, working closely with 1News to develop fresh content

Assignments Desk Coordinator and Junior Producer in training

Television New Zealand (TVNZ/One News)
11.2020 - 05.2022
  • My first job in news journalism taught me a great deal about fact-checking, balance, pace, developing interpersonal connections and maintaining professionalism.
  • TV and online writing was a great way to launch into storytelling and gather thoughts around what not only looks good on paper, but also which photos and contacts would work best for each story or interview.

Education

Bachelor of Communications with a degree in Journalism -

AUT
10.2021

Additional Information

The skills I have learned across media platforms in the last three years differ significantly.

Producing has been a great learning curve, teaching me to be part of a team where they choose quality over quantity in terms of delivering the freshest stories, angles and talent. Being the show’s sole producer has taught me the importance of connecting with, and creating professional relationships with, a wide range of PR specialists, economists, brands and other media companies. The quick-pace environment has taught me the most about time management and organisation. In my 1 year at Today FM and 1.5 years with TVNZ , it taught me to think outside the box with interviews, write long-form original stories, juggle timetables and cameras, interview subjects for the 6pm news and make great connections in the news industry. Being part of the junior producing team meant I have learned how to cut images and write news promos for the 6pm news as well. I also had a few months work experience with Re News to gain further written skills aimed at a younger target audience, which helped me to create new relationships within the media. The events I have covered for example are: Budget Week, the Queen’s death, and funeral, Merit Awards, the death of dairy-worker Janak Patel, the Oscar Awards, school and climate strikes, Election 2023 and the 2023 Rugby World Cup- to name a few. Alongside my AUT Communications degree, I was provided with a scholarship opportunity to complete a Massey short course on global studies and understanding intercultural communication- AFS’s Global Competence Certificate Programme 2021. I have a hard working and determined mindset, capable of completing any task set for me individually or set as a team.
