Mar-May 2025: Te Toka Tumai, Community Mental Health Services Older People (10wks): Gained exceptional communication skills. Worked closely with the multidisciplinary team to conduct risk assessments, cognitive tests and care planning. Managed caseloads independently and supported tāngata whaiora and whānau through recovery.

Apr-Apr 2025: Te Toka Tumai, Inpatient Mental Health Unit Older people (1wk): Supported older adults dealing with acute mental health conditions who require close monitoring. Implemented de-escalation strategies, behavioural interventions, and risk assessments. Worked closely with family and whānau to support care planning and to deliver culturally safe and person-centred care.

Sep-Oct 2024: Waitematā, District Nursing (3wks): Achieved complex wound care and monitoring, medication administration, and medical support in patients homes. Learnt the importance of adaptability, resourcefulness and autonomous practice.

Aug-Aug 2024: Te Toka Tumai, Surgical Orthopaedics (4wks): Provided pre and post-operative care which included pain management, close monitoring and mobility and rehabilitation support. Engaged in educating patients on recovery goals and the importance of physiotherapy. Learnt in-depth about neurovascular changes, musculoskeletal care, and wound care.

Apr-May 2024: Long Term Care and Disability, Oaklynn Special School Satellite Unit (3wks): Provided support to children with a wide range of disabilities. Assisted with daily activities, learning, and behavioural support. I learnt the importance of compassion, adaptability, and working together with families to achieve goals.

Mar-Apr 2024: Waitematā, Community Mental Health Services Older Adults (3wks): Participated in community and inpatient visits, assessments and discharges. Developed insight around cultural considerations and the mental health act. Gained confidence in supporting older adults and building therapeutic relationships to achieve positive outcomes.

Oct-Nov 2023: Waitematā, General Medicine (5wks): Gained experience in managing patient loads with complex medical backgrounds. Practised respiratory assessments, electrocardiograms, and vital signs. Provided education to patients and whānau regarding managing health conditions and treatment.

May-Jun 2023: Metlifecare Rest Home (5wks): Developed an understanding surrounding cognitive impairment and how to support older adults. I gained experience in assisting with daily activities, risk assessments, and managing comorbidities.

A grant given to Pacific nursing students each semester to support with professional development during studies.

Interests

Basketball- I enjoy playing basketball around Auckland in social competitions I find the teamwork and communication skills I develop on the court have a positive impact on many areas of my life

Gym - I value going to the gym in my free time because it helps build discipline, reduces stress, and supports my physical and mental health

Reading – Reading is a valuable hobby of mine I enjoy reading books that challenge me to think critically, which helps with personal growth
