I am passionate about sport and health, particularly in working with high performance athletes who each have such inspiring stories. With a master's degree in Sport, Exercise, and Health, I integrated coaching, performance analysis, and strength and conditioning, fueling my enthusiasm for the field. My experience at HPSNZ during my studies, along with my time as a full-time athlete with Rowing New Zealand, deepened my understanding of the dedication required for high-performance athletes.
As a High Performance Support Coordinator at the University of Auckland, I support 250 student-athletes in balancing their academic and sporting commitments. I provide performance, academic, and holistic support while maintaining strong relationships with internal staff and external organizations such as HPSNZ and national sporting organizations. I enjoy fostering connections and supporting others in their journeys, and I am now looking to take the next step in my career by applying my studies and experience to work in the practical field.
As a Coach Developer, I facilitate workshops to draw insights on rowing coaching, encourage new ways of thinking, and guide conversations in productive directions.
As Deputy Club Captain, I attend committee meetings to share my ideas and provide input. I liaise with those helping at camps and regattas, handle venue and catering bookings, and ensure athletes receive essential updates from the committee and coaches.
In this role I looked after the on the day processes for the ARA Baby Blues Camps 2024. The purpose of the ARA 2024 Baby Blues Programme is to encourage as many year 10 and 11Auckland based rowers and coxswains to experience rowing outside of their own school or club and learn new skills and form new friendships in a fun, engaging and social environment.
As a full-time athlete in the New Zealand Summer Squad, I immersed myself in the sport at the highest level, gaining valuable experience and insights. This role taught me numerous transferable soft skills, such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience, which I apply daily in my personal and professional life. I coached members through various exercises and ensuring proper technique. I approached the role with an analytical lens, focusing on movement patterns and form rather than just motivating members to achieve maximum reps. This perspective complemented the energy of my fellow instructors, who brought a hype-focused coaching style to the team. Together, we created a balanced environment that emphasized both effective training and member engagement, helping participants achieve their fitness goals safely and efficiently.
As a fitness consultant, I guided members through initial inductions to understand their goals, fitness experiences, and health backgrounds. I took measurements to align their current status with their objectives. Based on this information, I created tailored workout plans, walking members through each plan and making adjustments as needed. I was also available for rebooking to check on progress and make any necessary modifications to their programs. Additionally, I managed the member booking system and sign-ups, and I ran HIIT workshops to engage and motivate participants in their fitness journeys
During this internship I became confident in using GoPros to capture footage from various angles by utilising different camera mounts/connections. I actively participated in training sessions to ensure we recorded the right footage for coaches to analyze afterwards. By attending team meetings, I gained a clearer understanding of session focuses, which informed my filming. After capturing the footage, I efficiently downloaded and uploaded it to Sportscode and Hudl for review, enhancing the coaches' ability to evaluate athlete performance.
