"Civil engineering student at the University of Waikato, equipped with fundamental understanding in structural, geotechnical, and construction domains. Engaged in diverse extracurricular projects to refine communication, time management, and teamwork skills. Seeking a summer internship to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios and further develop practical engineering expertise."
As a first-year Civil Engineering student, I actively participated in a challenging project to construct a timber frame in collaboration with peers from the same discipline. Our group successfully built a frame using mainly MDF struts, adhering to stringent design requirements and limited materials. The final structure was robust enough to support over 7.5 kg of weight. This project enhanced my teamwork, problem-solving, and project management skills, as we navigated design constraints and optimized material use. I gained practical experience in structural design and learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration in achieving project goals. This hands-on experience has equipped me with a solid foundation in civil engineering principles, which I am eager to apply and expand upon through an internship opportunity.
As a first-year Civil Engineering student, I actively participated in a multidisciplinary project to build a remote control boat. Collaborating with peers from various engineering disciplines, we successfully completed the project, demonstrating our technical skills and teamwork. This experience taught me the importance of effective communication, coordination, and leveraging diverse perspectives to achieve common goals. I developed strong problem-solving abilities, honed my project management skills, and learned the value of resilience and adaptability. This project not only enriched my technical knowledge but also prepared me to contribute effectively in a professional engineering environment.
As House Captain at Hillcrest High School from January to December 2022, I led and coordinated activities for approximately 400 students. My responsibilities included effectively communicating essential information between teachers and students, organizing and leading school assemblies, and managing various house events. This role honed my leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as my ability to solve problems, manage time, and work collaboratively. Additionally, I developed resilience, empathy, and public speaking abilities, while fostering inclusivity and introducing innovative ideas within the house community.
From March to May 2021, I volunteered full-time on weekends at St. Vincent de Paul (Vinnies) in Frankton, dedicating 16 hours each week to sorting donation items, managing deliveries, and overseeing store operations. This experience enhanced my customer service skills through direct interaction with diverse clientele and improved my teamwork by collaborating with fellow volunteers and staff. I developed strong organizational and time management skills while managing inventory and tasks, and honed my problem-solving abilities by addressing unexpected challenges. Additionally, I refined my communication skills, engaging with various stakeholders to ensure a positive experience for all. This voluntary project significantly enriched my personal growth and provided valuable skills for my academic and professional future.
I'm a part-time marathon runner. I represented my High School as a basketball player. And an intermediate photographer.
