Iris Mackenzie

I currently work as a barista and waitress at Nikau Cafe. I have become confident at my skills of making coffee in the months I have worked here. I have also learnt to cash up at the end of the day and close the cafe on my own.

I worked here on and off for about 6 years. I learn't to make coffee aswell as becoming a confident waitress.

I worked as a dishwasher and server at the university hall, Cumberland in Dunedin. I became extremely efficient in washing dishes as the rest of the kitchen was relying on me at all times. I also learnt to keep my section tidy and leave the kitchen clean when I left. Cumberland was a hall of 400 students so I also learnt to deal with a high number of people and their requests.

I volunteered at the Blue Oyster Gallery in Dunedin. I helped set up events and became confident in communicating with new people coming in and out of the gallery with questions. I learnt a lot about contemporary art and the way gallery's function.

'Nu To U' is a luxury second hand clothing store that I worked at over my university break a couple years ago. I worked in the store alone so had a lot of responsibilities including the overall wellbeing of the shop. I learnt a lot about retail and sales. I also became confident in using the till and dealing with customer complaints.

I worked here in my last two year of high-school. It gave me great experience it fine dining and the right way to behave as a server in a high stress environment.

I worked casually as a babysitter for one of my neighbours. From this experience I learnt how to take full responsibility over others.

I worked at this restaurant before I left Auckland for University.
