Isabella (Bella) Alexander-Kemble

Summary

I am an artist, designer, and filmmaker who has recently finished up work on the Apple TV production Chief of War (in the Set Decoration Department).


I am incredibly passionate about filmmaking. I'm a very creative person and I love to use my artistic abilities to create each unique film/series' world. My goal is to one day be an Art Director and/or Production Designer because I want to be responsible for curating that world. I have experience in a wide variety of making/crafting, e.g. graphic design, painting, textile (weaving, leather work, sewing etc.), and dressing/buying to name a few.


I am based in Auckland but am willing to relocate to the area of a potential job.

  • Running/buying things for team members.
  • Helping out with some makes.
  • Helping team members wherever they need an extra set of hands/assistant.

  • I mainly worked as a textiles assistant to Jules Mansford and learnt so much from her and her team about working with fabric and other soft materials. We have made and assembled a lot of large fabric dressings/sets i.e. tents and ship sails.
  • I also made some other forms of set dressings i.e. lamps, wall art, handwritten documents etc. and spent a week or so assisting the Set Decoration painter.
  • I assisted in the dressing of sets.
  • I also assisted the on-set dresser, Gill West-Walker, from time to time when she needed an extra hand or stood in for her when she is unavailable.

  • I did a lot of buying, as well as photographing potential props and set dec.
  • I also made a few smaller props and designed some graphics.
  • I helped the Set Dec team dress and strike some of the sets.
  • Also, due to some on-set crew members contracting COVID, I did a couple of days assisting the on-set Art Director (Greg Allison).

  • I was assistant to Art Director, Jonty Hall.
  • Designed and dressed all of the sets with Jonty.
  • Did a little bit of buying/sourcing.

  • I came on to this project later into shooting so only did a few days, but it was a great experience and I learnt a lot! I was mainly working with the Production Designer, Kate Logan.
  • I assisted Kate in dressing 4 really fun scenes; an urban-shaman's studio, a staff room, a Harry Potter themed pottery studio, and a recreation of a bedroom (previously seen) in a studio for a dream sequence.
