During this role with MPI, I was supporting New Zealand exporters to register their businesses with relevant overseas markets' regulatory authorities. This role has shown me that I have a great interest in facilitating trade and advancing international relations between countries. I was a part of the Decree 248/China Project team. My main responsibilities were:

  • Supporting and liaising with external stakeholders during the application process across multiple sectors, such as dairy, seafood, bee, meat, and infant formula products
  • Understanding New Zealand's primary product and food export industries, as well as overseas market access requirements (OMARs)
  • Applying knowledge of overseas market access requirements and food safety legislation in the handling and management of applications
  • Maintaining a cooperative relationship with relevant internal MPI teams, such as Market Access, verifiers, and across government
  • Providing advice and support for ad hoc queries relating to the registration process based on OMARs and MPI legislature
  • Having technical knowledge and understanding of export systems, such as CIFER (China Food Import Registration System)
  • Working collaboratively with the Team Leader, team members, and managers to make sure applications get processed in a timely manner
