Hands-on Peer Support Specialist known for helping people in challenging situations and achieving recovery successes. Offering more than 8 years of clean time in recovery and ready to help others reclaim lives through use of proper services.
Having been thru the health system to where I am today, I have experienced the impact of services on the individual holistically. It is imperative that I maintain patient confidentiality and integrity.
I believe I am a competent and responsible employee. My current voluntary position is unable to pay me a wage for my time and effort. I know I will be an asset to your organisation. I am teachable and understand the importance of policies and procedures. I also possess the ability to ask for help when needed.
I am a mother of 6. I have been a sole parent for the last 13 years, during this time I entered into rehab, Te Whare Oranga Ngakau, 10th November 2014, this is where my recovery started. Subsequently I had 2 lapses until I arrived at Manning Street on 10th February 2015, where I currently volunteer, this is the start of my clean time.
During my recovery I have experienced life on life's terms and remained abstinent from all mind and mood altering substances. I have service positions in my anonymous 12 step home group. We are a virtual group that operates 15 hours a day, 7 days a week. This home group has been instrumental in my personal growth in the past 3 years. I also have a position with the regional help line, returning calls to struggling addicts.
I have gained many skills during my service history over the years, among these are interpersonal tools, improving my computer literacy, time management, delegation and shift co-ordination.
Today I can clearly see the impact of my active life on my 3 oldest children, I am making a conscious effort to improve the life for my 3 younger children. I believe by entering the paid workforce into a field I am passionate about, I will role model to my children that they can be whatever they want to be and we can achieve goals and aspirations.
