A current social work student, expecting to graduate at the end of 2024. I am passionate about developing my practice and hope to contribute to social change at both an individual and professional level in my future practice.
I am an empathetic, energetic and compassionate individual with a natural ability to connect with others. I have a genuine passion for empowering individuals to reach their full potential. I enjoy working with a diverse age range and hold experience working with children and the older population.
During my first practical placement, I was given the ability to experience working within a non-government agency. I was lucky to have the opportunity to work with quota refugees new to New Zealand. During my placement, my role included setting up housing for clients, supporting clients to access financial assistance, introducing them to their new community and supporting clients to achieve their resettlement goals. I gained experience in working with clients from a range of cultures and backgrounds.
Within my final practical placement through Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, I had the opportunity to develop my social work practice within a hospital setting.
My role on Neurology ward included supporting patients and family dealing with traumatic brain injuries, mental health issues, neurological declines, tumour diagnosis and other varying health diagnoses.
I was given the opportunity to develop my skills, including the ability to complete patient assessments, mental health risk assessments, how to participate within multi-disciplinary teams and patient advocacy.
