For the past year i have worked as a placement counsellor at Massey High
i have been working at MDS as a placement counsellor over the last semester
As the youngest of seven kids, relationships and connection have always been at the heart for my family and me. Ever since I was a kid, I have always had a passion for people and a desire to help; as I have grown, so has this desire. I believe the gift of being heard and truly listened to is one of the most wonderful things we can experience, and sadly, so many go through life without this. I am excited to be studying counselling and to continue to develop my skills, to be able to offer the gift of being listened to and heard to others.
Being homeschooled taught me important skills around self management which have served me well both in work and as a student. I am dedicated and hard working and i am looking forward to the opportunity to continue learning in placement.
Over the last year, I have done volunteer work for Kick Back, an organization dedicated to ending and preventing youth homelessness. Hearing the stories of many young people has given me a deeper insight into what leads to their experience of homelessness. These stories are often filled with family violence, sexual abuse, and family breakdown, amongst other things. As someone who desires to work in the youth homelessness space in the future, this is what draws me towards seeking a placement opportunity with your agency, as I believe the learning there would be invaluable and highly pertinent.
