Farm Environmental Risk Audits

Jarrod has been involved in the development and application of the RDA risk auditing process with a range of Dairy, Sheep, and Beef clients which is a tool used to assess farm operations and where risk areas may arise due to current and upcoming regulation. This tool was used to help clients understand areas that need improvement and identify how RDA could provide services could help. 

Consent Applications

With RDA Jarrod was involved with identifying potential issues and liaising with clients to complete consent applications based on the activities proposed. This included communication with council consents officers to discuss proposals made, also conducting drop tests and dairy effluent storage calculations to be supplied when the applications were submitted.

Health and Safety committee member

At RDA and Fonterra Jarrod had been an active member of the health and safety committee in managing risks and hazards and helping prepare reports and policies for the company. This included preparing hazard identification templates and managing the covid situation and processes to deal with this.

ISO14001 Auditing

Jarrod over his time at Fonterra has completed many internal audits which includes gaining his ISO14001 auditor certificate in 2023 and also leading multiple internal audits 2024 and 2025. Jarrod enjoys understanding the processes at other Fonterra sites and taking any learnings back to incorporate into the Edendale site Environmental Management System.

Consent Monitoring

Jarrod in the Environmental Advisor role has been involved in the communication with Environment Southland and other stakeholders regarding compliance at the Edendale Fonterra site. This involves the day to day monitoring of environmental data and consent conditions, as well as the monthly/annual summary reporting. Jarrod also helps manage site Environmental non-conformances and the actions to remedy these.

Darfield Environmental cover (F24)

Jarrod covered the Environmental Manager role at the Darfield site during the first few months of the F24 season while they were without a Manager or Advisor. This involved flying up once a fortnight to spend 2-3 days at a time supporting the site. This was a great opportunity to understand the Darfield site and step into and experience the Managers role and what this involves. For this support work, Jarrod was awarded the cooperative spirit trophy/award at the Environmental conference in November 2023.

Mason bay Stewart Island project

While at Otago University Jarrod spent time helping out with paid research at Mason Bay, Stewart Island in 2019 which included data collection, analysis, and reporting to the Department of Conservation and the local community.

Eastern Southland Basketball committee member/coach/player. Jarrod has been an active committee member for the Eastern Southland Basketball Association which includes helping with decision making and managing financial goals. Jarrod has also been involved with coaching of representative teams.
