I worked as a Grocery Assistant at Countdown Masterton for roughly 6 months. Similarly to my role at Freshchoice, this position required me to stack shelves with grocery products, date check items to ensure food is safe to sell and face up shelves and displays according to merchandiser layouts and requirements. Working consistently in this role positively influenced my customer service skills. Being surrounded by customers daily required me to answer any product related queries, manage any customer complaints in a prompt and respectful manner and build positive customer relationships through friendly interactions. Working at Countdown also gave me the chance to work occasionally in other departments where I could be of help which include, chilled, frozen and produce. This was typically over busy periods like Christmas and holidays.
Grocery Assistant at Freshchoice in Greytown was my first introduction to the work force. Working here I was exposed to my first real interactions with customers. Working at Freshchoice from such a young age benefited me in a very positive way, helping me mature and develop necessary life skills for the future. Although at first I may not have been the most confident person with talking to customers, at the end of my time working there I left a completely different person. I felt comfortable talking to the people who needed help throughout the store and I knew that I was able to help them. My role at Freshchoice required me to stack and manage shelves throughout the grocery department, date check items, and face up shelves. Being able to assist customers who had complaints was something I experienced for the first time here also. I knew I had the knowledge of how to deal with someone who may be upset or frustrated about something, and being able to put it into place was very good for me and my growth as a person.
