Abit about me i love hunting fishing motocross baking an more, i have 2 sheep 2 cats 2 dogs. Im always on time never late an great with time management. im originally from the north island and got offered a dairy farm job an thought id give it ago! an ended up in southland and love it, i don't think ill ever leave, i love it here. i have no family in the south island there up north, i just have my partner who i have been with since school, 7 years, we've made great friends here and we love our community.

Farm Hand/Calf Rearer

  • I work alone feeding calves making sure they have the right amount of milk, and colostrum for the first 48-36 hours,
  • spraying there sheds with anti bacterial spray, putting new saw dust down for dry bedding, making sure there hay and meal feeders are always full.
  • treating calves with navel infections, putting a needle. in a calve to de bloat them if they get bloated, spraying navels to make sure they don't get infected, tubing calves if they get sick.
  • tagging calves and bobby's, and making sure bobby's don't get red milk or antibiotics they cant have so they don't get rejected on the truck. treating calves for scours an other illnesses

  • Healthy and safety was a big must in this job with falling trees and heavy machinery, so many dangers with this job you always had to be on to it.

  • I was confident in driving a tractor in steep terrain.

  • I did several courses on this farm, calving course/lame cow course/calf rearing course.
  • On this farm i did. Vat washes/milking/getting cows in/putting up fences/treating lame cows/feeding out/night time barn checks/drenching an b 12 calves/ copper bullets/tractor work.
  • I bagged cows also had a trailer to lift cows instead of a tractor an hip clamps, the trailer had i hip clamp, belly strap an front harness. it was very handy at calving time as we had a couple of down cows that couldn't walk.
  • this was my all time favourite job so far, the bosses were amazing bud sadly had to leave as my partner moved to waianiwa for his work and it was to far to travel, my boss at the time had a sheep an beef block also that we would help out on and go hunting and possum shooting on.

  • id help deliver lambs with ewes that were struggling to lamb, an help calve cows also.
  • i am great with time management as certain trucks would be there to pick up stock at a certain time, this was one of my favourite jobs.
