Work History

Front of House/ Training Barista

Shoreline Cinema
11.2023 - Current
  • I would just like to mention something important. While the job date says " Present " my contract has been reduced to casual. This means that due to new staff, I may not have shifts available in the smaller holidays and will spend the majority of my time in Dunedin.
  • Back to my work experience, I worked at Shoreline in the Christmas holidays where I was a training Barista and also worked in Front of house. This was a great job for me as I love engaging with people and was able to learn barista skills as well. I found it highly enjoyable and that it also kept up my hospitality skills, whilst also improving them. Learning to be a Barista was a new experience and I would love to further develop within this area.

Call Centre Employee

4 Mile
11.2022 - 02.2023
  • Before I went to Otago University, I worked at a call centre to assist injured animals in getting medical help. This challenged my technology and technical skills as I worked off a computer and was answering phone calls.
  • I feel this job enhanced my understanding of technology and was socially engaging and it revolved around speaking with people through the headset. This required a lot of multi-tasking and independence. This has helped me gain confidence with multitasking, technology and feeling calm in stressful working environments. I feel it also improved my communication with people. This was because the emphasis was put on my tone of voice and what I said, as speaking on the phone removes observing physical body language and facial expressions.
  • Due to that, I feel grateful for being able to improve myself in that area and fortunate that my job involved animals.

Waitress

Field And Green
09.2021 - 02.2023
  • I really enjoyed being apart of the team at Field and Green and what I was able to learn. I feel I owe the understanding of customer service and working under pressure with a smile to this job. I also found applying my previous kitchen hand experience and understanding to this new role, helpful and useful. This challenged my multi-tasking, work ethic and ability to decipher customers' wants and preferences. I feel it also helped my organizational skills and I enjoyed that I was able to apply my previous kitchen experience to this job.

Kitchen Hand

Jack Hacketts
10.2021 - 09.2022
  • I was a kitchen hand at Jack Hackett's in Wellington. My responsibilities were to wash dishes and prepare food however, I would jump in line for service - cooking alongside the chefs. I feel this has given me a greater understanding and appreciation for working environments that are stressful. This is because I learned that stressful working environments require focus, communication, and the ability to multitask in order for the environment and results to be pleasant and successful.

Lead Singer in Professional Band Moxy

Moxy
03.2018 - 07.2020
  • When I was 14, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity of being the lead singer in a professional band called Moxy. I went from having never performed or sang a learnt harmony, to being able to sing Jazz harmonies and create my own.
  • I was able to meet my responsibilities while also enjoying the experience. I feel through preparing and performing from gigs, I have improved in skills such as time management, organization, teamwork, multi-tasking, people skills, public speaking, and memory skills.
  • Unfortunately, I had to resign as I moved to Wellington but I've always kept an aspect of music alive in my life. I have done this through being a part of bands, performing for school events, doing gigs at music bars, busking, and am currently in my college choir.
